Residents of Collinsville enjoy a beautiful natural setting among wooded hills surrounded by rolling plains of prairie grass. Large open spaces devoted to agriculture surround the developed boundaries of Colinsville, enclosing approximately three square miles.

Collinsville offers affordable living with a variety of housing types, churches, and civic clubs. While historic, the city is progressive with a strong respect for its history and past, while keeping an eye on the future.

In 1897 the first settlers came to Collinsville with its fertile bluegrass prairie and its huge coal beds beneath. The town was named after Dr. A. H. Collins. a surveyor and engineer who ran the post office. In 1898 the Collins post office name was changed to Collinsville.

The Santa Fe Railroad came to Collinsville in 1899.

In the early 1900's natural gas was discovered near Collinsville. Early industry included a brick manufactory. The smelter industry came to Collinsville in 1911.

Collinsville was one of the first in Indian Territory to have a municipally owned light and power plant. Today the city of Collinsville still owns its own electrical utility.
