Sand Springs proper lies north of the Arkansas River.
The community of Prattville on the south side of the Arkansas River is also now officially part of Sand Springs.
The Highway 97 bridge across the Arkansas River connects these two communities into one large community of Sand Springs. One can also cross the river by going across the Keystone Dam west of town.
While Sand Springs is in Tulsa County, northern parts of Sand Springs are actually in Osage County.
Some of the oldest trees in Oklahoma can be found at the arboretum in Sand Springs where a walking trail meanders through virgin timber.
The Herbal Affair held every April in Sand Springs is one of the area's oldest and largest herb fairs.
